A DISABILITY Business Service in Dandenong is in need of local employers to offer their support.
Gateway Industries was established in 1983 by the Dandenong Rotary Club, but has since undergone a transformation and relocated to Dandenong eight years ago.
In that time the number of employees has catapulted from 22 to 50.
CEO Alex Neitz said the organisation only received enough government funding for 40 workers and was hoping local employers would help by providing Gateway with work.
“One of the reasons we are here is because it gives our employees the satisfaction of having something to do. It’s extremely important to their self-esteem,” he said.
“And their workmanship is as good as anyone else.”
Mr Neitz said the workers ranged in age from 20 to 60, have on-job training and did a variety of work at a low cost.
Gateway has ISO-9002 and all workers are supervised.
“We have all the appropriate systems in place and we are professional – we are not just run of the mill,” he said.
“We do woodwork and make furniture and wine cellars. We package fan belts for the automotive industry and have contracts picking up litter. But we are looking for any businesses who need packaging on cleaning done.”
Mr Neitz said Gateway is also in need of more sponsors.
“We have great sponsors, including the Peter and Lyndy White Foundation, Segue and Honda, while Champion Compressors donated a compressor,” he said.
“But we could always use more support.”
