Amazon offers $150,000 STEM camp

Primary-school students are applying for a rare chance to take part in computer-science camps at Amazon in Dandenong South.

Entries have opened for 100 Sydney and Melbourne students in years 3-6 to take part in the $150,000 Camp Amazon Program.

The wide-ranging two-year program is designed to inspire children in disadvantaged communities to pursue careers in computer science, process engineering, robotics and IT.

Led by Amazon and industry leaders in STEM, the workshops will be staged after-school and in summer holidays at the fulfilment centre in Dandenong South.

“We recognise that the jobs of tomorrow require a strong aptitude for STEM, we see it in our growing business, and want to be part of the solution,” Amazon Australia operations director Craig Fuller said.

After completing the course, each student receives a $500 Amazon voucher to further their studies.

Ten participating schools in Melbourne and Sydney will receive $10,000 of communal-use STEM equipment.
