A MOTHER and her learner-driver daughter, picked up by police last Thursday for driving on the wrong side of Princes Highway, now face drink-driving charges.
Police said they were “astounded at the reckless behaviour” with the mother, 51, registering a blood alcohol content of .2 per cent, four times the legal limit, and her 28-year-old daughter hitting .17.
Members of the Operations Response Unit intercepted a vehicle travelling in an erratic manner on the wrong side of the road on the Princes Highway about 9pm.
Police said the mother told them she called her daughter to collect her as she was too drunk to drive home, apparently unaware that she had to be under .05 per cent when supervising a learner driver.
The daughter claimed she didn’t realise she was over the legal limit, police said.
Both women are expected to be charged by summons with exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol and with other driving-related matters.
