Cars stolen and torched

By Nicole Williams
POLICE are investigating a string of car fires in Dandenong.
Detective Senior Constable Kaine Pawson said there had been a string of cars stolen from outside the region and dumped and set alight in Dandenong.
But there appears to be no pattern as to where the cars were stolen from.
On 7 April a vehicle stolen from St Albans was found burnt out in Wilma Avenue Dandenong and two weeks later on 20 April, a vehicle stolen from Hawthorn was located in Noble Park North.
A car was found burnt out in Lyndhurst on 24 April which was stolen from Mornington and a car stolen from a Fountain Gate car park was found on fire in Dandenong South on the same day.
Most recently, a car stolen from Endeavour Hills was found burnt out in Keysborough on 28 April.
Det Sen Const Pawson said police were investigating each incident in their own right but they were concerned about the number of stolen vehicles being set alight within in Dandenong area.
“Police are currently undertaking a number of inquiries in relation to these vehicle fires based on the investigation of the scenes and information provided,” Det Sen Const Pawson said.
“Many victims of motor vehicle theft maintain hope their vehicle will be located and returned to them without further incident or damage and it is a disappointing fact that persons involved in motor vehicles thefts have complete disregard for the impact their actions may have.”
Police are appealing for any information regarding these vehicle thefts and fires.
Any information can be provided by contacting Greater Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit on 9767 7487 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
