AN OFF-DUTY police officer saved a woman’s day – and her bag containing a large sum of money – while doing the shopping.
The Dandenong Embona Taskforce investigator was driving along Ronald Street, Dandenong, at 10.30am on Monday when he spotted a running man with a woman’s handbag and being chased by another man.
The detective jumped out of his car and took off after the man.
He caught the man with the bag and returned it to its rightful owner, a 41-year-old Bentleigh woman.
Two local tradesmen helped the police officer to restrain the runner until additional police units arrived.
Noble Park man Harry Theoharis, 33, has been charged with robbery and was remanded in custody.
