THE judging of one of Dandenong’s premier annual art exhibitions drew a crowd of more than 200 to the Heritage Hill museum recently.
The annual Pride in Our Heritage exhibition, a joint initiative between the City of Greater Dandenong and Chisholm Institute of TAFE, showcases the work of some of the most talented young local artists.
Chisholm students exhibited their photographic, painting, prints, ceramics and mixed media works with inspiration coming from Dandenong’s heritage.
Creative arts program coordinator at Chisholm in Dandenong Peter Rowe said students gained enormous benefit from taking their work out of the classroom.
“It helps students see themselves as practitioners, rather than students, which is an extremely valuable experience for students who are coming to the end of their course,” Mr Rowe said.
The council’s libraries, arts and heritage services manager, Karen WardSmith, said the art competition provides young artists with an opportunity to gain valuable experience at the same time promoting the heritage of Greater Dandenong.
The artwork will be on display at Heritage Hill, 66 McRae Street, Dandenong, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays between 1pm5pm until 10 November.
