JP to be on duty

By Shaun Inguanzo
SPRINGVALE residents can now have important documents signed by a Justice of the Peace (JP) at their local police station.
Normally reserved for Dandenong Police Station, a JP will be available at Springvale Police Station between 10am and noon every weekday.
Springvale Senior Sergeant Alan Dew said the JP will be able to sign statutory declarations and other documents.
He said the initiative had already proved very successful at the Dandenong.
“This initiative will help foster stronger relationships between police and the community and also relieve police resources,” Sen Sgt Dew said.
“People can still come into the station out of these hours to have their personal documents signed and witnessed, but it will be much quicker within the designated hours.”
Sen Sgt Dew said the initiative relieved residents of the hassle of having to find a higher ranking police officer to witness or sign certain documents because a JP was endowed with the authority to do it all.
The Springvale Police Station is located at 314 Springvale Road, Springvale, and can be phoned on 8558 8600.
