GOLFERS from the Greater Dandenong business community teed off for a day of fun and networking as part of the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce’s Golf Day on Wednesday, 21 February.
Golfing numbers for the Sandhurst Club event were lower than previous events because the Mornington Cup was run on the same day, chamber president Renae MacNamara said. But the more intimate crowd of 58 golfers presented one of the best opportunities for networking yet, she said.
“The smaller crowd allowed us to be a lot more personal,” she said.
“When we have 120-odd people playing, there is an element of people sticking to their own groups.”
Stunning weather and well-watered greens, thanks to Sandhurst’s recycled water system, meant golfers were treated to a divine, yet challenging experience.
The format was Ambrose Fours, which allowed novice golfers to play without fear that their wayward shots would be added to the team’s score.
“The weather really was good and everyone enjoyed the day – even if they played really poorly,” Ms MacNamara said.
But, undoubtedly the most popular hole was the mobile ‘watering hole’ – or drinks cart.
Driven by chamber executive officer Deanne Johnson, and serviced by Ms MacNamara, the cart was stocked with vital fluids and helped golfers beat the heat while allowing the chamber duo to network with all golf teams.
The winning team for the day was ANZ Bank, followed by Booran Holden and RJ Sanderson and Associates.
Smaller turnout a slice of luck
