Cash boost for export networks

GREATER Dandenong’s own South East Networks (SEN) is one of 12 export networks across Victoria that will receive a $10,000 grant from the State Government.
Industry and Trade Minister Theo Theophanous this week announced the $10,000 grants to deliver year-long programs of export training and activities for their members.
“Exports are central to Victoria’s long-term economic growth and these networks represent a key part of the Brumby Government’s strategy to grow Victoria’s exports to $35 billion by 2014,” Mr Theophanous said.
“Export Networks are designed to provide export information, promote the exchange of knowledge, experience and ideas and foster mentoring between participants.”
The 2008 export networks include:
• Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association.
• Australian Industry Defence Network.
• Australian Industry Group, Health and Wellness Export Network
• Australian Industry Group, Ballarat
• Business @ Bacchus Marsh
• Central Victorian Exporters Network
• Greater Shepparton City Council
• Institute of Management Consultants.
• Melbourne’s West Export Network.
• Mildura Rural City Council.
• South East Networks – City of Greater Dandenong
• Wimmera Development Association Inc.
“The 12 successful applicants represent an increase from ten in previous years and include three new networks,” Mr Theophanous said.
SEN manager Sandra George welcomed the grant.
“This funding will enable SEN to continue its work in supporting the region’s existing and potential exporters, enhancing the region’s standing as one of the major export areas of Victoria,” she said.
“Our region is currently home to three of the top 10 Victorian manufacturing exporters.
“The region’s manufacturing sector continues to thrive with many leading-edge companies considering export and this funding will assist SEN’s efforts in working with them to evaluate their specific export opportunities.”
