Lecture looks at affordable housing

THE inaugural Merle Mitchell Lecture on housing affordability will be delivered by Professor Julian Disney starting at 7.30pm on 18 October at the Drum Theatre, Dandenong.
The lecture is named after Merle Mitchell, one of Greater Dandenong’s living treasures and a founding member of the Springvale Community Aid and Advice Bureau (SCAAB), an organisation to which she has remained committed for more than 35 years.
The past decade or so has been a housing boom in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs.
But the windfall gains have come at a heavy price for many less fortunate Australians and for future generations.
The victims include the hundreds of thousands of households in unaffordable and insecure housing.
The lecture will look at the housing crisis facing the region’s poorest and consider solutions.
This event is sponsored by SCAAB and entry is free but registration is essential.
Phone 9771 6666 to book, or for more information phone SCAAB on 9546 5255.
