IT WAS the tale of two cities.
Revitalising Central Dandenong is the largest urban renewal project in Victoria since Docklands.
Similarly the $1.4 billion Civic Place development in Parramatta is one of the largest urban regeneration projects in the history of New South Wales.
The two teams behind the projects met in Dandenong last week to share insights.
Darren Wood, Parramatta Council’s Project Manager for the Civic Place initiative, said both cities were very similar.
“Our two cities have a lot in common culturally, economically, socially and to both undertake regeneration projects at the same time is extremely valuable for sharing knowledge and learnings,” Mr Wood said.
VicUrban’s Development Director Michael King and Greater Dandenong Council’s Chief Executive Officer John Bennie showed Mr Wood key revitalisation locations in Dandenong including Lonsdale Street, commercial development areas near Dandenong station precinct and the new residential development Metro Village.
“I’m really impressed with the plans for Dandenong,” Mr Wood said.
“You can see how accessible and enjoyable the experience will be for all people.”
The Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative is a $290 million State Government investment through VicUrban and in partnership with the City of Greater Dandenong.
