Water say

By Kelly Yates
South Eastern Metropolitan MP Gordon Rich-Phillips, who is chairing the parliamentary inquiry into the Brumby Government’s major water projects in Victoria, is encouraging community members to make submissions.
“Households across the state, including regional and metropolitan Victoria, will be directly affected by these water projects, and this is a chance for Casey residents to have their say in an open and transparent hearing,” he said.
The Standing Committee on Finance and Public Administration will conduct an inquiry into the estimated benefits and costs arising from the Wonthaggi desalination plant, the north-south pipeline, and the modernisation of irrigation infrastructure.
“Decisions by the Brumby Government to build the north-south pipeline and the desalination plant are going to have a significant impact on the cost of water for all Victorians,” he said.
All submissions are due by Friday 19 December, with the hearings expected to begin early next year.
