SPRINGVALE’S lost treasure was celebrated over the weekend, a memento set in stone for future generations to remember a great man.
Friends and family of the late Wes Eggleston celebrated his life and legacy on Saturday and unveiled a plaque that carries his name outside the Springvale Historical Society.
Mr Eggleston was a long-time member of the Springvale Benevolent Society and much-respected member of the community.
Friend and secretary of the benevolent society, councillor Yvonne Herring said there was a good turn-out for the unveiling and friends who didn’t have a chance to speak at the funeral were able to tell a few tales at the unveiling.
Councillor Angela Long also attended and described Mr Eggleston as a true gentleman. “He was a humble man, and this plaque is well deserved.”
Springvale Benevolence Society President Joe Rechichi said the plaque was extremely important to keeping his memory alive.
“It means we, in the benevolent society and in the community, can always remember Wes,” he said.
“He was a great friend of mine, we worked very closely together for the last six years, but I met him in 1964. He did so much great work for the society for 34 years.”
