Good Samaritan search

By Lia Bichel
POLICE have renewed calls for help to find the people who attempted to abduct a Narre Warren woman who was walking in Dandenong earlier this month.
They have described the incident as an “opportunistic attack” and are continuing their search for the men involved.
Police said on 10 September the 34-year-old mother of four was walking alone on Cleeland Street after a night out with friends at a nearby hotel when she was approached by a white sedan.
The car followed for a short distance before pulling up beside her. The front seat passenger got out of the car, grabbed the victim and pushed her into the rear seat.
“There was a struggle and some injuries,” Detective Senior Constable Jo Mealia said. She said a good Samaritan, believed to be an off-duty taxi driver, pulled the woman from the car.
He drove her back to the hotel where her friends remained and she reported the matter to police who were at the hotel on another matter.
Sen Const Mealia said though the incident was rare, residents should be cautious when walking at night.
“It’s definitely not something that is re-occurring in Dandenong- it seems to be a one-off, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less serious,” she said.
The front seat passenger was described as being either of Afghan or Turkish appearance, dark skinned, about 160cm tall with dark boofy hair and a goatie beard. He was wearing a dark puffy jacket.
There were believed to be four people in the car, which was described as a white Toyota Camry sedan or similar.
Police would like to speak to the man who assisted the victim. He was described as an older male with a chubby face and is believed to be very tall.
Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
