Show off at Dandy days

By Bridget Cook
THE 139th annual Dandenong Show is on this weekend and is set to be as big – if not better – than ever.
The show has plenty of attractions and competitions to entertain people of all ages.
Neighbours star Matthew Werkmeister, who plays Zeke Kinski, will be at the show on Saturday between 5pm and 7.30pm to judge the School Talent Quest, as well as meet and greet showgoers.
Melbourne Heart soccer players Kliment Taseski and Peter Zois will be in the Westpac marquee from 10.30am to 11.30am on Saturday to sign soccer balls.
Trained horses, clowns and acrobats will feature in five shows held under a tradition ‘big-top’ circus tent by Eroni’s Circus.
The showjumping competition will be the biggest ever, with more than triple the entries already received than in previous years.
The show will also feature many favourites, with an action-packed carnival area, show bags, art and craft displays, animal nursery and a grand parade.
Other features includes Show Personality and Ambassador competitions, National Flyball Championships, a talent quest and battle of the bands, puppet theatre and live music and entertainment.
Dandenong Agricultural and Pastoral Society secretary Lynne Ferris encouraged people to attend.
“The show offers the experience of a traditional agricultural show,” she said.
“We all grew up attending our local agricultural show. This is a great way for people to revisit their youth, as well as show their children what an agricultural show is all about.
“You don’t have to go all the way to Melbourne to experience the fun and excitement of a show,” she said. “The Dandenong Show is your show and it has been running for 139 years, so come down and have a great day.”
The Dandenong Show runs from 9am until 9pm on Saturday and between 9am and 4pm on Sunday.
It will be held at the Dandenong Showgrounds, Greaves Reserve, in Bennett Street. For more information visit www.dandyshow.com.au.
