More cops on the beat- Police stations in Greater Dandenong will have 16 new police officers by 30 June. 46597

SIXTEEN additional police officers will be allocated to stations in Greater Dandenong.
Deputy Commissioner Ken Lay said the new appointments were part of a roll-out of 600 extra police officers across Victoria.
This number includes 450 new recruits and 150 existing members being redeployed to frontline duties.
“This is about providing police numbers where they are most needed,” Mr Lay said.
“We’ve looked at population size in growing suburban and large regional areas, as well as areas facing a high operational demand, current crime levels, community perception and emerging trends.”
Greater Dandenong will receive 16 additional police and the Divisional Superintendent will determine which stations in the area will receive the officers.
“Police in these areas already work hard to keep their communities safe and these additional officers will boost their efforts in targeting local crime issues,” Mr Lay said. The new recruits are part of a State Government commitment to recruit 1700 new police officers within four years.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Gordon Rich-Phillips said the 16 new police at Dandenong would make the streets safer.
“The government is delivering on its commitment to make Victoria safer with 16 new front line police to be allocated to Dandenong by June 30,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.
“New police in Dandenong is an important step in making every local street a place where residents can feel safe once more.”
