Thunder rolls on

By Gavin Staindl
DANDENONG Thunder has stretched its unbeaten road record to six games with a 3-0 win against the winless St Albans, but in the court room, Dandenong’s appeal still remains undecided.
The appeal against Football Federation Victoria’s decision to strip Dandenong of six points and force the closure of its gates at four home games was postponed for the third time on Wednesday night.
But frustrated fans found a measure of release on Sunday as their Premier League side waltzed to a comfortable victory.
The Thunder got off to a slow start against the VPL’s worst side, but they could be forgiven after being forced to warm up in the car park due to the lack of pre-game warm up space at St Albans’ Churchill Reserve.
But it only took 20 minutes for the Thunder to find their rhythm.
Matthew Theodore sent in a well-timed ball to Veton Korcari in the six-yard box who slipped it over to Liam Kearney.
The popular Kearney was good enough to place it past the St Albans goalkeeper to score the visitors’ first goal.
After finishing the first half on the front foot, the Thunder came out in the second half in a similar fashion and scored within 15 minutes.
This time it was Kearney who was dishing off the passes, sending in a cross to Theodore who headed Dandenong further into the lead.
Looking to shut up shop, coach Stuart Munro substituted full back Steven Cook in for Korcari, but Munro was soon regretting the move as Cook had to be withdrawn from the match 20 minutes later after copping a serious injury to his knee that could see him miss six weeks.
Luke Sherbon completed the 3-0 shut-out with a free kick in injury time.
MEANWHILE, the Springvale White Eagles put up a valiant fight against one of the Premier League’s better sides only to walk away with nothing to show for it.
The White Eagles gave up a goal to South Melbourne early in the match and while they were able to hold the home side goalless for the rest of the match, they could not find the back of the net to force the equaliser.
