Burren, Tonkin secure medals

By JARROD POTTER

SPRINGVALE Little Athletics Club had a pair of champions at last month’s State Track and Field Championships, with James Burren and Rhys Tonkin picking up medals.
Burren claimed gold in the boys under 13 1500 metre walk, winning in a time of 7.18 minutes ahead of Corio’s Jack Keating and Diamond Valley’s Michael Taylor.
Spinning his way into silver was discus thrower Tonkin – claiming the boys under 11 runner-up with a throw of 28.64 metres, behind Frankston’s Mason de Ridder (30.34m).
Tonkin also finished sixth in the final of the shot put and the javelin – to cap off a fantastic field performance at the championships.
