Bulls’ charge ahead

By JARROD POTTER

EMPHATICALLY pushing aside last season’s Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association North/East premiers Oakleigh (88), Noble Park (1/54) flexed its muscles in its season-opener to remove the home team cheaply.
Coach Rizan Mawzoon (5/20) and south-east cricket’s recent nomad Johan Vorster (2/17) were unstoppable as Oakleigh’s order could only muster 88 from their 47.2 overs.
Andrew Splatt was the only Oakleigh batsman to show any resistance – taking the side from a disastrous 6/34 by notching 32 to guide the visitors to a somewhat useable total.
Anthony Salomon (2/3) also feasted on Oakleigh’s shabby batting.
In response Noble Park made light work of the Oakleigh bowling – losing with captain Dean Edmunds (33 not out) and Chanaka Gunawardana (16 not out) knocking off 54 runs from the total.
Vijay Maharaj (2) was the only Bull to fall on the first day, run out early in the run-chase.
Noble Park will resume Saturday at 1/54.
