AUSTRALIA’S world championship chances have been dented with Dandenong Rangers’ star Jenna O’Hea withdrawing from the international basketball tournament.
O’Hea, has decided to focus on her WNBA career with the Los Angeles Sparks instead of playing for Australia at the FIBA World Championships, held in September in Turkey, which would require her to commit to lead-up camps and practice matches.
She will hope to add to her career tally of 70 WNBA games from three seasons so far.
Australia will also be without triple-MVP winner Suzy Batkovic, with the 33-year-old wishing to recover from a strenuous last two years with some time off instead of representing her country.
Batkovic made it clear that she had not retired from international basketball but had withdrawn from this particular tournament alone.
Dandenong has three representatives in the Australian Opals’ extended squad including star point guard Leilani Mitchell, along with three-point specialist Alice Kunek making the training camp – running from 23 to 28 March at the Basketball Australia National Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Canberra.
Former Dandenong Rangers Steph Cumming and Carley Mijovic have also been included in the training camp roster.
