PREMIER CRICKET

WHILE the Dandenong cricket sides didn’t fare too well – bowing out of their respective competitions last week – there still remained one more fixture at Shepley Oval.
It was the Women’s Victorian Premier Cricket grand final, at which Box Hill (7/254) proved far too strong for Essendon Maribyrnong Park (171).
Mustangs’ captain Meg Lanning (82) won the toss and savoured the conditions as she blasted a 130-run opening stand with Rebecca Carter (64). Cassandra Brock (72) finished the job to post a stratospheric scoreline.
Shepley Oval would not prove a happy hunting ground for Essendon Maribyrnong Park as only Australian/Victorian representative Kristen Beams (37) found the middle of the blade.
In other Dandenong cricket news, Springvale South duo Ruwantha Kellepotha and Yoshan Kumara have signed with Keysborough ahead of the 2015/16 season in a bid to get the Knights promoted back up into Turf 1.
