English Tourist in France
Previous to the war huge sums of money were annually spent in France by English motorists during the touring season.
Despite the war, the French authorities, recognising the importance of this annual influx of monied motorists and are appealing that English tourist should continue to make their annual trip.
“The English will be received in France with enthusiasm, and we are arranging that hotels will be open in all interesting districts except of course in the military zones, were it is impossible to travel
by road or rail.
“Certain formalities have to be gone through for the use of cars or long railway journeys.
“However travellers are to be reassured that they will not meet with the Austro German element, and will continue to encounter the traditional kindness and hearty welcome of the French. Belle France.“

Dogs get among chickens
Two “killer“ dogs are playing havoc in fowl yards in the Scott St and Robinson St area.
Mrs Kidman of 37 Scott St lost 10 laying hens last Wednesday.
Numerous other residents of the area have reported daylight raids by the killers, which have been identified and reports made to Dandenong City Council.
Both dogs are said to be black. One is larger than the other. They have been seen frequently together.
Mrs Kidman told the Journal yesterday the loss of her hens was a severe one.
Apart from their value, they kept her and her sick husband supplied with eggs, which at today’s prices were a considerable item.
Mrs Kidman added the dogs were merely killers. They made no attempt, at least in her case, of carrying the poultry away for eating.

Crime figures plunge
Crime in Dandenong has dropped almost 10 per cent in the past year.
Statistics released last week showed reported crime in the year to June 30 had fallen 9.8 per cent, and the amount of crime cleared by police has increased 2.2 per cent.
Mr Mason said: “The community perception should change as a result of this. It’s the most dramatic reduction in crime Dandenong has had…. I’ve been here many years and can’t recall anything like it“.

Cord safety kit
Dandenong households have ordered 231 of the 17,000 free safety kits distributed by Consumer Affairs Victoria to help reduce the danger of unsafe curtain and blind cords.
The easy-to-install safety kits help prevent hazards by securing cords out of reach of children.
