Cougars up for Big V honours

By JARROD POTTER

THE Big V championship might not be the only accolade for the Keysborough Cougars with the Big V awards nominations list announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Keysborough senior men’s team – still celebrating after claiming the Big V Division 2 Men’s championship on Sunday afternoon – had four nominees through to the final nominations with Malcolm Heard (MVP), David Smith (Defensive POTY), Ben Morwood (Rising Star) and Nathan Vogt (Coach OTY) selected in the short list by the Big V.
Having flown back home after an exceptional inaugural Big V campaign, Heard will be in yet another battle with season-long rival Manny Hendrix (Western Port) – this time for the MVP as the two dynamic Americans stand out in the race for the individual honour.
Keysborough’s senior women weren’t left out either as Billie Lucas – who averaged a superhuman – is in line for the MVP in Division 2 Women’s competition while Emily Rider is up for Rising Star.
From the Big V Victorian Youth Championship Men and Women’s competitions, Dandenong rounded out the nominations with Jordan Jacotine and Bree Whatman in line for MVP accolades.
The awards will be announced at the BIG V presentation night on 19 September.
