Smart moves for manufacturing

INDUSTRY experts and business leaders will inform and inspire in Dandenong on Tuesday 17 May.
The Drum Theatre will host a symposia as part of Smart Manufacturing ’16 – Dandenong and South East Melbourne on Show.
Committee for Dandenong (C4D) and its partners are presenting the expo-style event to promote the region’s capability and capacity.
The symposia will cover smart manufacturing, innovation and commercialisation.
Attendees will be able to network with like-minded people, ask questions, and receive advice on the latest commercial, technological, market and career opportunities.
“Each presentation aims to inspire and unlock potential for local manufacturers, businesses and the next wave of industry up-and-comers,” C4D chairman Gary Castricum said.
“We have secured the top industry experts in their field, all of which operate in the Dandenong and South East Melbourne region, which is home to 5000 enterprises and produces over half of Victoria’s manufactured product.”
Mr Castricum said 3D printing would be a key topic, and that leading scientists and engineers would discuss its capabilities, cutting-edge applications, and how it could lower capital investment risk and maximise efficiency for businesses.
Other topics to be presented include opportunities for businesses to participate in the defence industry supply chain; the need for manufacturers to be innovative during a technological revolution and how they can grow; the ins and outs of commercialisation and export; pathways to a career in manufacturing; emerging manufacturing industries such as agritech; and opportunities to seek funding.
