Police probe three fires

GREATER Dandenong police are appealing for witnesses to three fires.
Fire destroyed two three-metre gardens in the Parkmore Shopping Centre rear car park on 28 January about 11.40pm.
A witness saw two cars parked near the small shrubbed area, and a group of men and women laughing about the flames before getting into the cars and driving off.
The witness notified a security guard, who used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.
About 3.30pm on 29 January, a fire started in a former two-storey brick baseball clubrooms now home to squatters in Elanora Road, Noble Park North.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Constable Nick Lamb said those responsible used materials located at the premises to start the blaze.
CFA crews extinguished the fire before it could reach a large gas cylinder that “looked like it had been put there”.
“It wasn’t part of the building,” Det Sen Const Lamb said.
He said there were no injuries and no damage to surrounding property.
“If the flames had reached the gas bottle the fire could have been larger than what it was,” he said.
“There could have been an explosion.”
On 2 February at 4.05am a 2005 model Mercedes sedan was set alight in National Drive, Dandenong South, and was totally burnt out.
Det Sen Const Lamb urged anyone with information on the fires to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
