RESIDENTS risk a rate rise if Federal Government funding for Greater Dandenong roads doesn’t increase, Mayor Angela Long says.
She said more Roads to Recovery Program funding would ensure the city’s roads stayed safe.
Over the past five years, it’s seen about $3.2 million provided for resurfacing, patching, kerb repairs, minor drainage and line-marking in Dandenong, Springvale and Noble Park.
During 2013-14, $651,000 in Roads to Recovery cash will be used for renewal works in Noble Park, Dandenong, Springvale and Keysborough.
“The program funds a significant proportion of council’s annual budget for road maintenance on local roads, and we need a firm commitment from the Labor Party and the Liberal-National Coalition that this funding will continue,” Cr Long said.
“Without this funding, council will be forced to either increase the property rates or reduce the road maintenance budget, which will negatively impact on our residents and the wider community.”
