Milestone for mainstay

Roslyn Hubeek notched up her 150th VWFL match on Saturday, but not before copping her first major obstacle of the day - downed by an overly-taped banner. 104249 Picture: JARROD POTTER

A FOOTBALL mainstay in the south east, Roslyn Hubeek, notched up her 150th Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL) match.
Hubeek has been a part of south east football since she was playing under-9s – playing in the Dandenong District Junior Football League (now South East Juniors) for Noble Park and Keysborough – winning best-and-fairest awards in the boys’ competitions before having to stop due to age restrictions.
When she made her senior women’s debut in 2003, Hubeek made an immediate impact – winning four out of five best and fairest awards playing for Parkdale and Parkmore Football Clubs.
Switching to the Burra in 2009, it’s been Hubeek’s home ever since and has been a crucial link in Keysborough’s success this year – helping the team attain second on the ladder.
Keysborough coach Natalie Cardamone said she can always rely on Hubeek’s endeavour and is a worthy captain of the club.
“I have played alongside Rozzi for the past four years and… she plays with enormous passion, heart and determination,” Cardomone said on the VWFL website.
“She has never let me down as a coach – Rozzi has captained my team for the past two years and she has all the girls respect.
“She leads by example on the field – she has a big heart and that’s exactly how she plays.”
Unfortunately, it there wasn’t a fitting end to her 150th match, as Keysborough was downed by Scoresby in the second semi-final 1.5 (11) to 5.10 (40).
