Thrift helps make big change

By CASEY NEILL

A NEW Doveton thrift shop will deliver bargains and help for those in need.
Dandenong Salvation Army opened the store last Friday 2 May.
Corps officer Captain Stuart McGifford said his team provided vital support to about 400 families a month and offered a variety of services to help those in need.
“Whether it is new migrants or mothers with hungry children, we are trying to make a difference to the residents of this town,” he said.
“The Salvation Army has a broad and diverse range of work going on in the City of Greater Dandenong and we want to continue to work together to alleviate poverty, seek justice and ensure people live healthy, full lives.
“The funding from the thrift shop helps to support the work we do.”
Captain McGifford is putting the call out to anyone who’d like to volunteer their time at the store for a few hours a week, supporting and helping the community.
“Working in a Salvation Army shop is a rewarding experience, so people can go home at the end of the day and know they have made a real difference,” he said.
Visit the store at 1a Frawley Road, Doveton, or call 9706 9366 for more information.
The initial opening hours are 9.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday, and donations can be made between these times.
