Skate park opens after safety concerns

By CAM LUCADOU-WELLS

NOBLE Park’s keenly anticipated cutting-edge skate park is to be opened to the public today.
Greater Dandenong Council made the announcement that the public can start using the facility on Instagram this morning.
The $1 million-plus park had been delayed by a last-minute safety audit, resulting in a safety fence being installed around it.
The park, which has been designed by Noble Park skater legend Jon McGrath, includes a three-metre plus vertical bowl, street course and snake run.
It was designed as suitable for users of all ages including BMX and scooter riders, and is anticipated to attract skaters from interstate and overseas.
Councillor Peter Brown, who led a call for a safety audit, said the two-month hold-up was justified.
“We had to make sure it’s safe,” he said.
“It’s not the experienced skaters we’re worried about, it’s the inexperienced ones and the strangers to the site who were at risk.”
The council will officially open the site in September.
Visit the skate park to see the action.
