REDUCING waste and making mates is what the Garage Sale Trail is all about.
Greater Dandenong Council is encouraging residents to take part in the Saturday 24 October event, now in its fifth year and also designed to promote reuse, create awareness about illegal dumping and stimulate local economies.
Mayor Sean O’Reilly said Garage Sale Trail helped people to think creatively about how they could reuse items that might otherwise be put out for waste collection and possibly end up in landfill.
“The Garage Sale Trail is a great way to get to know your neighbours and connect with the broader community, whilst raising money for yourself or others,” he said.
“It’s a grassroots event that has swept across the country, so we are pleased to be part of something bigger that’s making some positive change.”
Last year, the average Garage Sale Trail seller made more than $300 and 13 new community connections on the day.
Once registered at garagesaletrail.com.au, sellers can personalise a webpage and list items for sale.
The site also includes tips and tools to help sellers promote their sales locally.
Sellers who register before 25 September will receive a pack designed to ensure a successful garage sale.
