Men arrested after punch claim

A TAXI driver was arrested after allegedly hitting back at a man who he claimed threw a punch at him in Dandenong earlier this month.
Police said the taxi driver was standing at the cab rank near Dandenong train station when another man, who was allegedly drunk, approached him and swung a punch about 10.15pm on Thursday 10 September.
They said the taxi driver retaliated by punching the man in the head, who then fell to the ground and lost consciousness.
A group of men who were nearby, described as African in appearance, then tried to intervene with the taxi driver and were later arrested.
It’s unknown whether these men were known to the victim or the taxi driver.
The victim was taken to The Alfred hospital and treated for head trauma but his injuries were not life-threatening.
The taxi driver was also arrested and released pending summons.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or to submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
