Freeman still leading from the front

OLYMPIC legend Cathy Freeman has taught Keysborough students about Indigenous education issues.
Lighthouse Christian College student leaders Nikolas Psomoulis and Mark Youseff attended a Cathy Freeman Foundation youth forum at the school on Wednesday 13 April.
“Listening to her share on her journey and motivation was a good experience for the young student leaders,” teacher Paul Donovan said.
The event’s aim was to engage and educate students on the disadvantages Indigenous youths faced in gaining education.
Students heard that 31 per cent of Indigenous children did not finish high school or receive a graduating certificate.
The Cathy Freeman Foundation mission is to achieve two-way learning, ensuring children are proficient in both cultural and mainstream education.
The foundation partners with schools and communities, such as those in Palm Island, to give children the motivation to stay at school and aspire.
