Police impounded a man’s car in Dandenong North after they allege he overtook them at 25km/h over the speed limit.
The 26-year-old man, from St Kilda, also allegedly returned an evidentiary breath test reading of .193.
Greater Dandenong Highway Patrol members first saw the driver’s Nissan SUV travelling city-bound on the Monash Freeway about 1.45am on Sunday 22 January.
The driver allegedly passed the marked police car at 105kmh in the 80kmh zone, then almost hit another car just after the South Gippsland Freeway interchange.
The Nissan driver then moved right into the middle lane, police said, and accelerated to 136kmh in the 80kmh road works zone.
Police intercepted the car near Brady Road, Dandenong North.
They immediately suspended the man’s licence and impounded his car for 30 days.
He will have to pay $961 in towing and storage costs to get his car back.
The driver is also expected to be charged on summons with driving under the influence, drink-driving and exceeding the speed limit.
