Millions pour in for mental health

Dandenong cancer and chronically ill patients will receive better mental health support.
A $1.71 million funding boost will strengthen the consultant liaison psychiatric service, which provides mental health care for patients admitted to general hospital wards.
State Mental Health Minister Martin Foley announced the cash at Royal Melbourne Hospital on Thursday 6 April.
He also announced $5.47 million to improve 21 mental health and alcohol and other drug rehabilitation facilities across Melbourne, including Caraniche in Dandenong.
It will receive funding for additional security measures to manage high-risk offenders through the Facilities Renewal Grants.
Windana Drug and Alcohol Recovery will also receive funding to upgrade outdoor amenity and install a new barbecue area at its youth community house in Dandenong.
“This additional support will mean the Dandenong community can access safe and modern facilities and services – when they need it most,” Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams said.
