Running late to the cells

A driver running late for a date in Noble Park ended up behind bars.
Greater Dandenong Highway Patrol members intercepted a 20-year-old Newborough man who was allegedly travelling at 90km/h in a 60km/h zone on Sunday 11 June.
Police said he told them he was in a rush to attend a dinner date, and ran from the scene.
They arrested him moments later and searched his vehicle, where they allegedly uncovered drugs and a large amount of cash.
Police interviewed and charged the man with multiple offences, and he was remanded in custody to appear at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court.
This intercept was part of Operation Regal, a state-wide focus on road user behaviour and awareness around the importance of drivers taking responsibility for their own actions.
Police targeted the main causes of fatalities and serious injuries, including speed, driver distraction, drivers not wearing seatbelts, fatigue, and drink and drug drivers.
