Weaving stars to curb bullying

Keysborough students are taking a STAAR-ing role against violence and bullying.
Mt Hira College senior students Fozia and Rafal established the Students Take an Active Role (STAAR) Club last July.
“They wanted to ensure all students felt a sense of belonging at school and provide an opportunity to get involved in worthwhile school and community-based projects which are decided by members of the club,” Mt Hira College head of student well-being Yasemin Savran said.
“The club is open to all middle and senior school students once a week during lunchtime, when they meet to collaborate on their chosen project.”
This term STAAR Club got involved with nation-wide project One Million Stars to End Violence and Bullying as part of National Day of Action against Violence and Bullying.
“The members of the STAAR Club have been weaving stars using ribbon in school colours to show that they stand united with the rest of the nation against violence,” Ms Savran said.
“The students pledged to weave 200 stars which will be sent to the Gold Coast to feature as part of a display at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
“With various schools and community groups contributing, this display will consist of a million stars.”
