Haileybury College has scooped the inaugural Australian Education Awards, including the top award of School of the Year.
The college, which is based in Keysborough, also won the Non-Government Primary School of the Year at the awards in Sydney on 17 August.
Haileybury chief executive Derek Scott said the awards reflected the college’s outstanding teaching, hard work by students and great support by families.
“Schools exist for one reason only and that is to deliver great education outcomes for students.
“It also reflects the hard work of those students who do a wonderful job.”
Mr Scott was a finalist in the non-government school principal of the year section, as was Robert Johnson in the department head of the year award.
Haileybury was also a finalist as non-government secondary school of the year.
For the college, it was an endorsement of its Explicit Teaching Model that reaped great outcomes in its primary school.
The model has also improved results in remote and disadvantaged schools.
The college consistently ranks in the top 0.5 per cent of NAPLAN scores in the country.
In 2017 VCE, three of its students achieved 99.95 ATAR scores. There were 39 perfect study scores of 50 across 11 subjects.
The awards were organised by The Educator magazine.
Its editor Brett Henebery said the night celebrated excellence as well as encouraging “change-makers” to share their inspiring work in education.
“The awards night provided an exciting glimpse of the inspiring and innovative ways that Australia’s best educators are going above and beyond to ensure that young people leave school as happy, inspired and capable citizens.”
