Dignity packs for women in need

A Dandenong funeral service is collecting donated handbags filled with essentials for women experiencing poverty, homelessness and family violence.

White Lady Funerals is taking part in a nationwide It’s In the Bag campaign led by non-profit Share the Dignity.

Donors are asked to bring a handbag containing items such as sanitary items, deodorant, toothpaste, shower gel, socks and a brush.

Share the Dignity volunteers will distribute the goods to domestic abuse shelters and drop-in centres before Christmas Day.

“It’s disconcerting to know there are women on our doorstep who need our help to afford basic hygiene products that most of us take for granted,” White Lady Funerals area manager Tia Worrell said.

“As a member of the Dandenong community and a committed and professional team of women, we want to help and would appreciate any donations people can spare.”

White Lady is collecting the handbags at 137 Princes Highway between 9am-5pm Monday-Friday until 2 December.
