Monash Freeway blaze jams traffic at Endeavour Hills

A CAR caught on fire on the Monash Freeway outbound at Endeavour Hills this afternoon and stopped traffic for more than a kilometre.

Two CFA crews were called to the scene about 3.15, about one kilometre west of Belgrave-Hallam Road and quickly extinguished the blaze.

The freeway’s outbound lanes were closed until about 3.50 when all but the left lane were re-opened.

A VicRoads spokesman said outbound traffic was banked back about 1500 metres behind the scene. ‘‘The fire has been extinguished and there’s a tow-truck now on site,’’ he said.
