GREATER Dandenong Council has given the go-ahead for 30-metre-long trucks in Dandenong South.
As part of a report into freight vehicle access into the industrial suburb, the council argued to allow 26-metre B-doubles and 30-metre high-performance freight vehicles on to local roads.
Last month, the council approved a request from Wettenhall Logistics to allow HPFVs access to its depot in Letcon Drive.
The report stated the community at large may see the vehicles as posing a safety issue or “other negative impacts” as in Footscray.
It stated the “perceived negative impacts” must be “weighed against the economic and environmental benefits…from significantly more efficient vehicles and the facilitation of business growth in Dandenong South”.
“The issues that apply in Footscray do not apply in Dandenong South. Relatively few residential properties abut roads in the Dandenong South industrial area.”
