SEABL: Rangers edge Bendigo in thriller

By ROY WARD

DANDENONG Rangers women left Bendigo with a vital win in their South East Australian Basketball League clash on Saturday night.

The Rangers women beat Bendigo Braves 60-59 and did so on the back of Amelia Todhunter’s 21-point, 10 rebound and five assist master class.

Tenaya Phillips added 10 points for the Rangers while Lauren Scherf and Aimee Clydesdale each scored eight points. Braves forward Lauren King had a game-high 27 points.

The Rangers also controlled the rebound count, 45-36, in a defensive encounter in which both teams struggled to make baskets. The Rangers shot 31 per cent from the field and the Braves 33 per cent.

The Rangers men couldn’t get past the highly rated Braves men, who won their match 92-77, also at Bendigo Stadium on Saturday night. The Braves dominated the rebound count 51-31, with import Ivan McFarlin having his way, scoring 25 points and pulling in 17 rebounds, while Tom Garlepp scored 22 points and Chris Hogan 17.

Daequon Montreal led the Rangers with 20 points and seven rebounds. Tony Lewis scored 14 points and Andrew Harms 12 points.

Both Rangers teams visit Ballarat this Saturday night with matches starting at 6pm.
