Bombardier delivers on train contract

A DANDENONG South manufacturer is supplying Adelaide with its first electric trains.
Bombardier’s A-City trains are the first Australian-built models to meet the latest crash standards.
There are 22 heading to South Australia as part of the electrification of the city’s metropolitan passenger rail network.
The first one left Dandenong South last week and made the journey to Adelaide by road.
The design is based on the award-winning VLocity, meets the latest European norms for crashworthiness and structural integrity and will meet stringent international fire safety standards, making it among the safest passenger rail vehicles in operation in Australia.
The 25kV A-City electrical multiple unit (EMU) is permanently coupled as a three-car set, featuring a wide body with a slim sidewall construction for higher passenger capacity.
Each car has generous entry areas and wide aisles to allow rapid passenger flow.
Bombardier is also contracted for ongoing fleet maintenance.
