SCHOOLS played an integral role in cleaning up the community last weekend as part of the annual Clean Up Australia Day celebrations.
The annual event kicked off last Friday, 3 March with the designated School Day and ended with a general public day on Sunday.
In Dandenong, general activities focused on Woodcock Reserve with the day hosted by the Islamic Association of Australia.
But across the city, there were a number of schools that took part in tidying up their surrounds.
In Noble Park, Yarraman Park Primary School students tidied the reserve near Pau Street, after cleaning-up Douglas Street.
Approximately 170 children took part in the day, and City of Greater Dandenong waste education officer Kirstine Oh said she was ‘tickled pink’ with the students’ response to the day’s activities which included a sensory walk, clean water education and a survey of local traders to gauge their environmental awareness.
