Bus service better for employees

THE STATE Government is remaining tight-lipped on a new bus service set to bring more employees into Dandenong.
Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce president David Carlson last week told members at the Premier Regional Business Awards Breakfast that the chamber learned the State Government was trialing a bus service that ran north to south through east to west train lines to provide better linkage across Melbourne’s east.
Mr Carlson said he was hopeful the service would include Dandenong South’s industrial and manufacturing area so more employees could be bused in and out and not have to spend extra time zig-zagging on train services.
The announcement is expected to be part of the State Government’s Transport Liveability Statement, to be unveiled in two weeks.
But until then the State Government has refused to comment on the bus system.
“The Government will consider proposals for bus improvements in the Dandenong area alongside other competing budget priorities,” a spokesperson said.
“We do not know what the Dandenong Chamber of Commerce has told its members, however the Transport and Livability policy statement will be released in the next two weeks,” she said.
