Station off rails claims report

DANDENONG Train Station is in ‘putrid’ condition according to local public transport advocates.
The Public Transport Users Association South Eastern Branch, which meets in Springvale, two weeks ago released the minutes for its last meeting in November 2006.
The group discussed Dandenong Train Station’s appearance, with some members saying the lifts did not always work.
“The group feels that there is a major problem with the amenities of Dandenong Station,” the minutes read.
“For example, the lifts do not seem to work on a regular basis and the station for a city of this size was putrid,” the minutes read.
The group welcomed the State Government’s commitment to abolish Zone Three but said it was worried about the timing of links between buses and trains for young people on weekends.
“We also have concerns that weekend transport for young people does not properly link up with both buses and trains and that transport authorities need to take into account the changed demographics of the area,” the minutes read.
PTUA figurehead Alex Makin, whose experience with the PTUA Eastern branch helped the South Eastern group find its legs, praised the group for a strong first year advocating public transport.
The next meeting of the PTUA South Eastern branch is on Tuesday, 13 February at the Springvale Council Chambers.
