Eastlink jigsaw takes shape

THE Star was given an exclusive bird’s eye view of the Eastlink construction recently and can report that traffic relief for frustrated drivers is well on its way.
The Monash interchange, where Eastlink meets the Monash Freeway, is beginning to take shape.
More than seven bridges will connect the freeway and the tollway.
Traffic on the Monash Freeway was diverted onto Eastlink ramps in July 2006, with traffic due to be diverted back onto the new Monash alignment in May this year.
On the other side of town, the Heatherton Road overpass is one of Eastlink’s tallest bridges, towering almost 20 metres above the Princes Highway and the Eastlink bypass.
The last of the steel beams was installed last month and the concrete deck of the new and improved Heatherton Road is currently being poured.
With construction still scheduled to be finished on time, traffic congestion in Dandenong could soon be a thing of the past.
