AS MARK Twain might have said, reports of our death have been greatly exaggerated.
Tonight, City of Greater Dandenong councillor Matthew Kirwan was to table a report for more council-published newsletters to fill the gap left by a decline in local newspapers.
Of course, you’re reading this in your family-owned community newspaper of 148 years, so there’s life in the old dog yet.

NEW figures show 15 per cent of Greater Dandenong, Casey and Cardinia residents smoke daily – just below the 16 per cent national average.
That’s about 53,000 people.
The data also showed about 215,000 people in the area were overweight or obese – 60 per cent of the population, again just down on the national average, which is at 63 per cent.
South Eastern Melbourne Medicare Local (SEMML) will use the figures to guide its programs and measure outcomes.
