New premier to bring new focus: MP

– Shaun Inguanzo
DANDENONG MP John Pandazopoulos hopes new Victorian Premier John Brumby will focus more on public transport issues facing residents in the south east.
Mr Pandazopoulos said Mr Brumby, who the Labor caucus voted as new Premier after Steve Bracks stood down last week, had a strong public transport focus.
“I think Mr Brumby recognises that we have to deliver on the things we said we would at the last election,” Mr Pandazopoulos said. “He will look closely at a third rail line and by implication station upgrades, and dealing with level crossing issues.
“The south east is congested in both roads and public transport and he wants to try to aim a little higher in those areas.”
Mr Pandazopoulos ruled out a return to Cabinet, and said for now he was focused on being Dandenong MP.
He also ruled out retirement from politics.
“I have no plans to retire, I am still young. I’m only 44,” he said.
Mr Pandazopoulos chairs the State Environment Committee and is working with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association to help pacific island nations understand democracy and good governance.
