Tee off is hit for homeless

By CASEY NEILL

BUSINESSES will hit the golf course for Hanover Welfare Services next year.
The South East Business Networks (SEBN) Take a Swing for Charity event is scheduled for Sandhurst Golf Club in Skye on 24 February.
It’s raised more than $160,000 for the community’s most vulnerable over the past four years.
Hanover Welfare Services CEO Tony Keenan said next year’s proceeds would provide a playground, laundry facilities, a dental brokerage fund for children and childcare for mums returning to work.
The service for the homeless will celebrate its 50th birthday next year and runs Bob’s Place in Dandenong, which helps more than 1000 people each year.
Mr Keenan said most of the homeless people that Hanover helped in its early days were men but today 2500 of its 6500 clients across the state were children.
He said family violence was the biggest driver for homelessness, with the housing crisis and employment vulnerability not far behind.
Take a Swing for Charity needs event sponsors, players, hole sponsors, auction prizes, financial donations and attendees for the after-game dinner.
In other Greater Dandenong business event news, a race day at Sandown is scheduled for 22 March with a breakfast the day before.
Businesses will have the opportunity to sponsor a race.
