Rangers rise

By JARROD POTTER

SEABL – round 4

THE defending champions are finally on the winner’s list after the Dandenong Rangers shot past Canberra in a 88-64 win on Friday night.
Dandenong shot out of the gates with a 31-18 first term and kept the foot on the pedal to extend the margin to 24 by the final siren.
Tony Lewis (27 points, 17 rebounds) is putting his hand up as an early MVP contender while Daequon Montreal (22 points, 8 rebounds) and Andrew Harms (20 points) also made it count on the scoreboard.
“We’re happy to be back on the winner’s list,” Rangers coach Darren Perry said.
“We’re close to a full roster now and have everyone back from injury.
“Harms is back from a hand injury, Daequon from a knee and Owen is back after his NBL commitments finished and we’ll get Lucas (Barker) back from college soon too.
“Haven’t been able to train much together, but we’re going alright.”
The Rangers’ women also had no problem brushing aside Canberra in a 103-67 shellacking.
Larissa Anderson went deep to the bench to give everyone a run and the full roster was able to stroll past the Capital’s Academy.
Clare Papavs (14 points, 9 rebounds) continued on her consistent ways while Rachael Antoniadou (18 points), Lauren Scherf (17 points) and Tenaya Phillips (16 points) all featured prominently in the scorer’s ledger.
A week’s hiatus for Easter, the Rangers will face off in the traditional ANZAC Day clash away at Frankston next Friday from 6.15pm.
